Hundreds of feet overhead inside York Minster, the second largest gothic cathedral after Milan, are beautiful ceiling bosses. Some in the south transept were designed by children for the BBC television programme Blue Peter; those in the nave chart the life of Jesus and were featured on UK christmas stamps (3 1/2 p) in 1974. Outside there is a new statue of St. Peter, after whom the cathedral is named. There are also carvings of various ailments which only a 1100mm focal length lens brings in to sharp and clear view.
