Vande Mataram (I praise thee mother), a poem written in sanskrit and bengali from Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's 1882 novel Anandamath. It was first sung in 1896 by Rabindranath Tagore who wrote the Indian and Bangladeshi national anthems. It is recognised as the national song. Saraswati is the goddess of learning; I was pleased to record Republic day celebrations and Saraswati puja at HERHCA in 2015 - the celebrations included performances by music students.
