Kathakali is a stylized classical Indian dance-drama noted for the elaborate stylised make-up of characters, elaborate costumes, detailed facial gestures (navarasams) and well-defined body movements presented in tune with Carnatic percussion music. It originated in Kerala during the 17th century from "Krishnanattam", the dance drama on the life and activities of Lord Krishna created by Sri Manavedan Raja, the Zamorin of Calicut.
