It is a four day harvest festival celebrated by Tamilians including at HERHCA usually between Jan 13-16.The second of the four days is the main day of the festival and is known as Thai Pongal -it coincides with Makara Sankranthi , a winter harvest festival celebrated throughout India. The day marks the start of sun’s six-month long journey northwards or the Uttarayanam.
